THEY are scarce on the catwalks of the world, but
…..Australia’s leading plus-size model Natalie Wakeling has discovered big girls in fashion are thin on the ground here too.
The stunning 26-year-old from Mudgee (pictured), who shot to fame as the first size 16 covergirl to front a local fashion magazine, has turned to designing the plus-size fashions she models.
In scouting for the new face of her designer range, Envi Denim, Wakeling said good plus-size bodies had been hard to find.
Her agent, Darienne Donnelly of Big Gal Models, confirmed the demand for body diversity in advertising had been difficult to meet due to a shortage of size 16 models.
"The demand is there from clients for larger-sized clothing," Mrs Donnelly said. "The problem is, I just can’t keep up with it."
In desperation, Wakeling has turned to The Saturday Daily Telegraph to help find a face for her label and encourage plus-size women to consider it as a career.
Sydney women aged 16 to 35 can forward a headshot and full-length photograph of themselves to Big Gal Models.
The lucky one chosen will be groomed to front the Envi Denim campaign, as well as having representation by Big Gal Models.
