Dangerous Fashion (Or How I Broke My Foot)
According to a Harvard study, women have four times the foot problems as men mostly because of high heels. "High heels cause all kinds of injuries from osteoarthritis in the knee to ankle sprains…shoes with narrow toe boxes and elevated heels are a primary source of foot pain, injury, and disabling conditions including bunions, hammertoes, Achilles tendonitis, compressed nerves, and corns," according to "Foot Care Basics," a special report from Harvard Medical School.
Does this mean I’ll be smarter and opt for ugly comfort shoes from now on? Probably. Because while I would rather wear adorable heels, nothing is frumpier than the big gray fracture boot and crutches that I’ll be spending the next few weeks on.
