I was fortunate enough to be one of the bloggers invited to the Jessica London Fashion Blogger Conference. I have to say that I was intrigued about what I was going to see, being that I have not been a Jessica London customer in a very long time. I think the last thing I bought was a coat years back but as the market has grown and become more accessible, I moved away from catalog shopping (Speigel, Silhouttes, Jessica London, etc) and went the online route.
On July 30th I made my way to the conference and was greeted by a very friendly staff who were VERY interested in what “we” had to say as plus sized women. We viewed pieces that were displayed on mannequins, were shown a promotional video and even had a fun create your own outfit challenge. One of the bloggers present, was the CEO of The Voluptous Woman Company, Jennene Biggins; when she brought up the subject of using plus size models, I thought it was a little tense at first, but it seemed that it had already been a discussion among the company and tt was happening sooner than later. (yeah!)
I recently read a post on the Stylishcurves blog about a shoot where Marquita Pring was shooting for a new campaign for Jessica London. Kudos to the company for trying something new to them; using a plus size model, to sell plus size clothing. Personally I think the feedback they will receive will be amazing.
I was able to see some of the new pieces that were coming out or had just been released. Honestly speaking, Jessica London is not going to appeal to the Junior plus size market, but more to the woman who is in the work force and likes to look good while she is working and playing. I’m being sent a complete outfit; It’s a beautiful bluish/black animal print dress and the way it was styled when I saw it at the conference had me at “Hello!”. A light weight leather jacket and cute pair of high heeled shoes and I could see myself wearing it all around NYC.
