Top Ten Beauty Must Haves for Spring 2011

by Makeup Artist Teal Druda

For Spring/Summer 2011 natural eyes made a strong appearance (nearly across the board) in all the designers’ fashion shows! Think clean – with perhaps a bit of light shimmer – and fabulously defined lashes. With natural eyes, you want to have your skin looking as flawless as possible, so DON’T overdo the foundation, but DO use concealer wisely – a little can go a long way. While Fendi and Gucci wowed us with bright orange and hot pink lips, Christian Dior went the distance this season with use of color on the runway looks. Using not-so- subtle shades of key lime, fuchsia and icy blues, Dior had fun playing with bright colors on the eyes, focusing a bold block from the lash line over the lid. Although I can’t say I’d recommend this look for everyday, adding that daring and playful pop of color to your look is always fun. Here are some of my “must have” beauty products for Spring/Summer 2011 ~ Enjoy!

  1. M.A.C. 4-shadow compact with Nylon, Rice Paper, Coquette and Girlie –  www.maccosmetics.com I recommend Nylon and Rice Paper as great under the brow or on the lid highlighters, they can also be used in the inner corner to “open” the eyes. Coquette and Girlie are natural tones that are great day to day colors to use in the crease. Coquette can also be used as a brow shadow and/or liner with the correct angle brush.
  2. L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black – www.lorealparisusa.com

For volume, drama, and price I think this is one of the best mascaras on the market – hands down!

  1. Burt’s Bees Juicy Peach Lip gloss – www.burtsbees.com All natural, this tasty gloss moisturizes and adds a lovely sheer color over your favorite liner or lipstick.
  2. Focus 21 Sea Plasma Moisturizing Spray – www.focus21.us This all purpose skin and hair moisturizer is a great refresher when feeling fatigued or when your skin and/or hair feel a bit dry. I use under my foundation to make sure my foundation glides smoothly over my skin and also mist over my make-up to “set” my look and boost hydration.
  3. Wet ‘n’ Wild Silk FinishLipstick in Taj Mauve-Hal (553B) – www.wnwbeauty.com Add a bit of fun and a bright color to your make-up drawer. This may not be an everyday lip color, but with nude eyes adding a bright lip is a great way to glam-up your look.
  4. Estee Lauder Smoothing Crème Concealer – www.esteelauder.com Estee Lauder’s smoothing concealer makes those dark circles disappear. Rarely have I found a concealer that gives so much coverage without looking dry or “cakey”. This is also great for hiding broken capillaries, as well.
  5. Make-Up Designory powder blush in Poppy – www.mudshop.com This blush has a lot of pigment in it so a little goes a long way. Poppy is the perfect color to give that warm rosy glow to your cheeks.
  6. MAC Lip Glass in C-Thru – www.maccosmetics.com Line your lips with your favorite pencil and cover with this gloss, it has just enough “non-color” to it to soften down the hue of other lipsticks in your drawer, turning them into a spring shade.
  7. Stemulation™ Serum – www.stemulation.com It may be an investment, but this skincare treatment will make your skin look and feel gorgeous…really! It is particularly helpful with fine lines and evening out skin tone. Those using Stemulation have been raving about its results. It is well worth the splurge.
  8. The Body Shop Body Butters – www.thebodyshop-usa.com One of my all time favorite products. After all the cold winter months give your skin the pampering it deserves. I’m always transported to Hawaii when I use the Mango version; it’s almost good enough to eat. I recommend using immediately after you shower while your skin is still a bit damp, for best results.
