Plus size designer Tennille White featured a collection of sophisticated brightly colored dresses and gorgeous jumpers, during BET’s Rip The Runway last night. Her style is classy and the movement of the garments showed the attention to detail in every piece.
Models included March 2011 PLUS Model Magazine cover model Liris Crosse, Mia Amber Davis, Jeannie Ferguson, Kai Morae, Natalie Monet, Chasity Saunders and Allyshia Hamilton.
Missing from the show, were other plus size designers. I remember the first year I attended the awards, there were at least two plus size designers and almost 30 girls. Past designers include Monif C, Qrystal Frazier Designs and Douglas Says, yet seven years in; we are no more included than we were in the very beginning. Many of the models reported feeling uncomfortable when “Diddy” produced the show about two or three years ago. Apparently he does not believe plus size fashion is REAL fashion, and wanted to cut the segment altogether. I think that year less than 10 plus size models walked the runway.
We are 62% of the population and we don’t deserve any more than one fabulous designer? Why were the plus size models NOT included in the MEET THE MODELS area of the website? I wrote my feelings on my personal Facebook page last night and a conversation began about why we are just sitting here and taking it, and why so many plus size women are not really all that excited about RIP anymore. At the end of the conversation came the realization that nothing will change if we don’t allow our voices to be heard, and a letter writing campaign has begun.
If you want to see more designers included in BET’s Rip The Runway, below are the details of who and where to mail your letter. Your letter should be professional, include statistics and how you feel as a plus size consumer and woman who wants to continue to support BET’s efforts.

WOW! I literally JUST had a twitter conversation about this LAST NIGHT! I was saying that BET’s RIP the Runway doesnt excite me because I’m tired of them only giving curvy girls 1 or 2 scenes! This is ridiculous!
Thank god clothes that fits us curvie women that is fashionable
Where can I buy everything t.white had on the runway tonight!
RIP the runway is to be aired on BET in London in April, I will watch it and give my comments also. so sad thatq once so called REAL people are being excluded, this is one of the reasons I love the U.S.A for it’s diversity. we here have still a long way to go. return soon after I see show. x
