PLUS Model Magazine Celebrates New Beginnings, Confident Curves, and Sex Appeal in February Issue

NEW YORK, NY (January 14, 2010) – PLUS Model Magazine, (http://www.plusmodelmag.com) the premiere virtual magazine celebrating the plus size fashion, beauty, arts and plus size modeling industries, today announced that Mandy Muenzer, PLUS Model Magazine’s first West Coast Model Search winner, will grace the cover of the February issue. The winner was announced in December on PLUS Model Radio by Lisamarie Audiss of Brand Model and Talent Agency, who has signed her to an exclusive 1- year modeling contract. Muenzer, who was a finalist on FOX’s More To Love, also won a campaign with Hips & Curves, in addition to the cover and editorial of PLUS Model Magazine.

This month PLUS Model Magazine also welcomes former plus model Tulin Reid Emre to the staff as Marketing and Advertising Director. Tulin served as Vice President of one of the largest online media retailers and Marketing Director for several online business, including plus size apparel. A former national spokeswoman on behalf of PCOSA (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Association), she has more than 18 years experience in media marketing, including building dynamic ad sales teams for niche market television. As a plus model a few of her credits include Kiyonna, Mervyns Department Stores, Size Appeal, Nordstroms, Bloomingdales, and Charming Shoppes. With her extensive background in marketing, as well as the plus modeling industry, she is the perfect addition to our team. PLUS Model Magazine is looking forward to the growth that Tulin’s experience will bring to the publication.

PLUS Model Magazine gives back by being a proud partner of NEDAwareness Week, Feb 21- 27 to bring awareness to eating disorders and body image issues, as well as gearing up for the 2nd annual Curvy All Star Weekend April 16th – 18th in New York City. PLUS Model Magazine will be raising money and forming a team to participate in the Manhattan MS Walk on April 18th.

 NEDAwareness Week Collage Contest!

 In your ideal world, what would mass media look like?

 NEDA wants to know what you think our media culture could look like if

• It helped facilitate high self-esteem
• It represented diverse conceptions of beauty
• People were valued for attributes other than looks
• There was no airbrushing
• Advertising didn’t exploit insecurities
• It celebrated creativity in self-expression 

We invite you to enter your commentary and/or criticism in the NEDAwareness Week Collage Contest and show us where you see media activism taking us.      

What do you get if you win?

If you are chosen as the winner of this contest, your collage will be featured in the NORMAL In Schools (NIS) Gala Fundraiser, Inside Out…Experiencing Normal, and on the homepage of the NEDA website!  In addition, you will receive a free gift bag of NEDA gear! NORMAL In Schools (NIS) is a 501(c)3 arts-and-education organization which brings NOR•MAL (a hip, rock ‘n roll musical), an accompanying curriculum, clinical psychologist and person-in-recovery to schools to educate about eating disorders and related issues.

 What are the collage contest requirements?

*A collage is a work of art on a single surface composed of various materials not normally associated with one another. 

•  You cannot submit any images that infringe or violate someone else’s rights or violate the law.
• You must submit your collage photo via email* in a jpeg file format (limit 2 submissions/person)
• Physical dimensions can not exceed 36” x 48”
• Your collage must address the theme question, “In your ideal world, what would mass media look like?” 
• Your submission must include:
  • Your first and last name (if you do not want your last name listed publicly, please make a note in your submission email)
  • Home state
  • Collage title
  • Description./artist statement (optional), 200 words maximum
  • Collage dimensions
  • Email Address
  • Phone number

 The deadline for submitting your collage is January 15, 2010, 12:00 noon EST.  If you are selected as the winner, your original collage must be framed and delivered to NORMAL In Schools by February 10, 2010.

 Any submissions that fail to meet these requirements will be ineligible.

 How do you submit your collage jpeg?

 Please email your submission with the information required above in the body of your email and the jpeg attached to neda@myneda.org.  Do not send the original collage to NEDA. The deadline for sending in your submission is January 15, 2010, 12:00 noon EST.  The winner will be announced January 25, 2010.

 How will the winner be chosen?

 After submission acceptance closes on January 15^th, the judges will review each eligible entry. Our panel of judges will be made up of members of the 2010 NEDAwareness Week Committee and NEDA staff.
